While the walk did feel shorter this week, it was colder, but still an interesting walk. We did a Bio-Diversity study using Hula-Hoops as quadrats, identifying plants and animals species and we used bamboo canes to mark where we looked. We had to write down the number of plant and animal species we could see in one small area. In a few weeks we'll revisit this to see how it's changed! We might use our data to make some graphs.
We had a look in the polytunnel and got to try some mustard leaves which were very spicy! Some of us like them, some didnt!
After break time we then did some composting with comfrey juice. We learned how to make comfrey juice (which smells quite disgusting). You have to stuff leaves and put grass down a tube and it gets compressed over time. Eventually, smelly dirty 'juice' can be collected at the bottom and the plants love it as fertiliser! We watered some of our growing seedlings with it in the polytunnel.
To follow up in Art, we tried to draw realistic pine cones with Mrs Little.
