Today we went on the walk to Gilmerton with Ailsa in her beach chair and Somhairle's mum coming as a parent helper. Mrs Maycock was off but we had a parent helper to help instead.
We played a game of team tig at our extra long break.
The main work today was harvesting potatoes, of which we found three varieties.
Freya and Ailsa picked up all the windfall apples, but had to be careful not to touch any that were starting to rot or had been eaten by wasps. There were still a lot of wasps having their lunch in those apples! We all got to eat an apple, but then loads of wasps came into the outdoor classroom. We were going to do a Stil Life Drawing of some of the fruit and vegetables we'd collected. Di set them up on the table. But unfortunately there were too many wasps making us all go a bit crazy, so we left a little early today.
When we got back to the classroom, Mrs Mitchell set up the Still Life Drawing in the centre and we all spent a while drawing a small section of the vegetables. We'd had a practice the week before at drawing some vegetables, so we could add shading and colour this week. We hope to use these drawings to add to textiles later in the term once it's too cold to go to Gilmerton. It would be good to make t-shirts, bag, teatowels or something.
On the way back to school we passed a huge ivy bush with millions of butterflies and bees on it. It was a bit scary but amazing to look at. We might do some art about butterflies too, using lino cutting.
