Digital Citizenship Seesaw Activity
What I Did ✅:
I used one of the lessons in a virtual activity that was assigned while children were at home learning and shared it in the Seesaw activity library for K-2 at EastPenn for other teachers to collaborate and use as well. This specific activity is about stopping and thinking while online and gives the student the opportunity to connect with one of the characters in which skill they think is most important while online. It is age appropriate and can also be graded and viewed by families through Seesaw.
What I Learned 🧠:
I learned that just as I would adapt a lesson according to level or skill, the same intentional planning as to be used for other curriculum areas such as digital citizenship. It seems as though it doesn't quite fit in library sciences, or social studies, or science, and that it is almost a topic on its own, but can be difficult to specifically and intentionally find time to teach.
How I Will Grow 🌱:
The ISTE standards for students, teachers, coaches, and leaders all include digital citizenship therefore we as educators need to understand them and teach them accordingly. I will continue to follow new guidance put forth by ISTE.org and seek new materials to use in my classroom to support safe and healthy digital learning.
Social media is changing the way we communicate and the way we are perceived, both positively and negatively. Every time you post a photo, or update your status, you are contributing to your own digital footprint and personal brand. Amy Jo Martin
