Best Practices Using Technology Project
What I Did ✅:
I chose this artifact from the course Problem-Based Learning LLT545 because it represents a collaborative effort with a group of fellow K-3 teaches and a librarian. Together our task was to design a pre-service training on a variety of technology tools teachers may want to use and offer best practices while using them. Each slide that we created is linked to some self-paced trainings, opportunities for hands-on professional learning, and surveys to help us as instructors maximize growth and professional development in the future. My particular focus was on Kahoot! and I created a professional development session in which teachers will create their own teacher account and experiment with designing their own Kahoots which can be used for formative assessments.
What I Learned 🧠:
Group projects were always a thing from undergrad work and even throughout High School that would always make me cringe! What if I couldn't carry my own weight? What if I had to carry the weight of a lazy or incompetent team member? Will the group be as hard-working as I am? Will we get a collective grade? There are so many concerns in my mind when doing group projects. I learned in this course, when paired up with like-minded professionals who are already willing and desiring to work with their new knowledge and skills, it makes the process and project work much easier and more enjoyable. I was also able to hone in on my abilities and skills to "teach the teacher" and really concider all the aspects of designing a professional development session. I considered what I enjoy most when doing professional development- and that is certainly NOT getting lectured for 3 hours. Just as learning in the classroom should be, it needs to be well rounded, meeting the needs of the learner in a ay that is fun and engaging. By utilizing an exit surveys I was able to assess my abilities as an instructional coach and reflect on how I can improve and grow.
How I Will Grow 🌱:
This project has helped me to realize that collaborative projects are an effective way to cover a broad topic while I myself can learn. I will be better suited in the future to work with a group of colleagues to create engaging trainings but only if I continue to gain new knowledge and work experiences that give me opportunities to reach my career goals. One area in specific that I would like to focus on is a pre-training and post-training survey or questionnaire which I feel are concrete ways for me to measure my training effectiveness and abilities. Google forms makes it so easy to do now. Teaching teachers and teaching children can be similar in many ways but also VERY different. I will work on not being overly self conscious about my abilities and seek ways to continue to gain confidence with professional development trainings.
