Kahoot! Professional Development
What I Did ✅:
In the course, LLT 545 Problem Based Learning, one of the assignments was to create a professional development training. This was designed to be introductory training for Kahoot, which is a game- based learning platform available for free to teachers. The program offers a library of already created Kahoot challenges and also options to create your own. The professional development training was designed to be two hours long, review several slides, incorporate a break, and also include time for the staff to set up an account. Giving professionals the time to explore on their own and have a hands-on approach is very helpful in any professional development training.
What I Learned 🧠:
First and foremost, there is a lot of work that goes into creating professional development training sessions. As a teacher, I know all too well how boring and passive some lecture-type trainings can be. I learned that by keeping it interactive and giving ample time to explore, it becomes very similar to the types of learning experience that is best practice for students as well. Pacing the information, timing a break and offering ongoing support is something that I hope gives great feedback at the end of a training
How I Will Grow 🌱:
This experience was very valuable for future trainings I will be creating for my building team at Alburtis and for the entire kindergarten level. I believe teachers are more likely to buy into a teacher-driven training than one prepared by administration. I feel more confident and prepared knowing that I am able to be creative and engaging with professional development and inspire collaboration among teachers while they explore using a hands-on approach.
