T-Shirt Design

White on Black

You'll be doing a series of t-shirt designs so that you get a good understanding of what you need to do to create quality artwork for silkscreening. We'll start off fairly simple by creating a t-shirt that requires only one color. The final product will be one of white ink on a black t-shirt. Of course this same process could be used for any color ink on any color t-shirt with little modification. So make sure to read all written instructions and watch and listen to all video instructions. And most of all have fun while learning!!

Download the T-Shirt template to your computer or to your Google Drive on your Chromebook. Make sure it is located in a place where you can easily find it!!

Find a picture that you would like to use for your T-shirt graphic. While it is encouraged to use photographs that you have taken, that is not always realistic for educational purposes. For the sake of this project, you may search the Internet for an image you would like to use. Remember to specify "large" in the search filter to insure that you get a good quality image. If you forget how to do this review the video in this section.

Your first steps on your project are to start off with a template and place the image you're going to use as well as create some text. It's important that you get everything sized & placed how you want before you start making modifications. Making changes to your image after the fact can change the aliased edge.

In this step you're going to add an effect to make your photographic image look like a pencil sketch, and then convert the pencil sketch to pure black and white to create a nice crisp outline of your figure.

The outline looks great, but there's nothing like a little halftone to add to the three dimensionality to help bring back the photographic look of our figure Watch this video to learn how to work this magic and add a few touches to finish up your project.

When you are all done with the project make sure to compare your project to the rubric to insure you did everything as you were supposed to.
