Cross-Hatch Pen Drawing

For this assignment you can either look at a shaded pencil drawing that someone else has created, or look at a B & W photo as your source image to create your own shaded drawing rendition. Here is a folder with cross hatching examples that will give you a good idea of the type of work I'm looking for. You can use an image from this folder, a photo you or a family member took, or do an image search for a source image. If you choose an image other than one in the folder, make sure to get my approval, as I don't want you to pick something that is too difficult, or not challenging enough for your ability level.

Once you have found your image, remember to get a B & W printout so you can prepare the source image to use as an example. If you aren't able to get a printout, you can look at the image on a screen such as a Chromebook to draw from. This method, however is not optimal, as you won't be able to grid the source image.

You may or may not have done a cross hatching drawing in Art 2, or at some other point in your life, but just because you may have done it once doesn't mean you can't improve. I mean, you didn't just tie your shoes once and say, "Yeah been there, done that" and then moved on to flip flops, hey? Watch this video from Shoo Rayner Drawing, to either refresh your memory, or learn more about it, and then begin your drawing. Remember to do it in pen, so that you get practice in drawing with a different medium besides pencil.
