Things to remember to do on every project:

  • Make sure you know where and how to save your projects. If you don't remember, then review the info at this link.

  • Remember to keep your files, folders, and drive organized! If you created multiple versions of the same project, delete the ones you don't need.

  • Turn your project in to Google Classroom when finished

  • You've checked the RUBRIC to make sure you've met the requirements. It will show you how your finished project should look. It will also show the way your layers should look in the layers palette as well as other things that should be included to receive a high grade.

OPENING & SAVING A PSD FILE VS. A JPG, PNG, or PDF

PSD Files: In most cases psd (Photoshop) files will have multiple layers, or other advanced settings such as raster masks, layer effects, clipping masks, or adjustment layers (you'll learn more about this as the year progresses). When you open a psd file, and make changes to it, life is simple. All you need to do is choose File > Save (Google Drive) to preserve the changes you made. Since it started off as a PSD file it will remain as a PSD file.

JPG, PNG, or PDF FILES: This project will most likely start off as a jpg image. Since you will be adding layers, etc. to this document, you will need to keep those changes. When saving, if you choose "Save (Google Drive)" it will keep it in the single layer jpg format you opened it up in and you will lose certain important changes. So in order to keep the advanced changes you make in Photopea, choose "Save as PSD" the first time you save it. This will create a whole new document in the PSD format. The next time you open it, choose the PSD document & not the jpg. From that point on you can continue as usual choosing the "Save (Google Drive) option.

STEP 1: TAKING YOUR PICTURE

Taking a Picture With Your Cell Phone

Important Note: By default iPhones take pictures in the HEIC format. Photopea won't recognize this format. So before you take your photo/s go to > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible. Once this has been changed pictures you take from this point on will be recognized by Photopea.

Taking a Picture on Your Chromebook or the iMacs in the Library lab

Since the Library Lab iMacs are using Chrome OS instead of Mac OS, they should take pictures just like a Chromebook does.

INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS

To watch a YouTube version of the video click on the thumbnail picture with the "Play" arrow icon. If you're unable to watch the YouTube version, click on the video title to access the Google Drive version.

Gives you a quick preview of what your project will look like from beginning to end.

Make sure your finished project is placed in your Google Drive. If it has a name other than "Alien Head", then rename it. Then turn it in to Google Classroom following these instructions.
