COURSE DESCRIPTION: Grades: 11 -12; Prerequisite: Art 1P, and Art2

This course will reinforce and refine the skills learned in Art 1P, and Art 2. Students will be graded in the areas of Digital Portfolio Submissions, Tests & Exercises, and Effort & Efficiency.

PORTFOLIOS: Art 3 students are given a lot of freedom to choose which types of projects they would like to work on. They have had two years of Art and should have a good idea of what areas of art they wish to excel in or improve on. However with freedom comes responsibility. In order for the teacher to keep track of the student's progress on projects, a digital visual record of this progress will be kept in a shared Google Drive folder. Every two weeks students will take a picture of their project with a cell phone camera and place it in the assigned Google Drive folder for Mr. Stavrianoudakis to review. Mr. Stavrianoudakis will take pictures for students who do not have this capability.

Each photo will be treated as an individual project. If there is little progress from one photo to the other, the grade will be low. If there is much progress, the grade will be high. Complexity and quality of the project are the two main factors (though there are many more) when looking at the amount of progress that should have taken place. For example, a painting or sculpture, require more time to complete than a drawing. Also, a very detailed painting will take much more time than splashing paint on a piece of paper. Even more so than in lower the level classes, all students are expected to turn in completed, quality projects. In fact, expectations of quality work demonstrating a high level of rigor are greater.

When the teacher enters the portfolio grade into the electronic grade book (PowerSchool), the student should receive a notice of their grade. Students should keep track of the due dates listed on the Art 3 web page, and make sure to send the photo of their progress on the due date. If a student doesn't receive a notice of a grade being entered within two days after having sent in the picture of their portfolio progress they should immediately inform the teacher.

TESTS & EXERCISES: Approximately every 2 weeks you will be given a test or exercise that matches the state standards. Most tests &/or exercises will entail knowledge of the “Elements of Art” and “Principles of Design” as well as terminology used within the artistic realm. Tests should be turned in directly to the teacher the period and day they are taken or due. Students that were absent the day of these assignments are responsible for asking the teacher for them upon their return. A student may not make up a test or exercise more than one week after the original date.
