Rainey is a DCHS graduate from the class of 1996
She is the daughter of Mike and Bonnie Alting, and was coached by
Tracy Richter and Jeff Gehr.
Rainey competed in multiple sports as an Oracle, including Volleyball, Basketball, and Track and Field. She ended her career the all-time points scoring leader in Delphi girls' basketball history, and in second place for both programs. She was only 19 points shy of Pat Manahan's all-time Delphi scoring mark. She capped her senior season off as 1-st Team All-Area, 1st Team All-Loganland, 1st Team All-State, and as the 1996 state scoring champion with an average of 30.7 points per game and a total of 737 points on the year. She was named the 1996 J&C Player of the Year, and was named all conference in all four seasons of play at Delphi. Due to her many accolades in an Oracle uniform, on April 7, 1996 her #21 was retired from girls basketball by the Delphi Community School Board.

After high school she attended Vincennes to play basketball. There she was a two time NJCAA All-American and was named to the All-Region 12 Team leading them to a Region 12 Championship and District N Title. During that time she was 7th in the nation in assists and finished in the top 6 in career assists and steals. Rainey eventually transferred to Indiana University. At that time, she joined several Delphi athletes in the very exclusive club of D1 NCAA level basketball players, and became the first ever female to tally this accomplishment. At IU in 1999-2000 she was ranked 10th in Big Ten Assists per game with 3.5, while averaging 10.8 points and 37 minutes per game.
She was named to the 2021 Indiana Basketball HOF Women's Silver Anniversary Team, as one of 18 outstanding members from the 1996 senior class.
As a player Rainey won 2 sectional championships in 1994-95 and 1995-96. Both of these teams reached the Regional Finals (in the single class basketball system). She returned to the Oracles as the girls' head coach in 2015, and coached through the 2020-21 season. During her tenure she earned a third sectional championship and a regional finals appearance in 2016-17. Her career record as a head basketball coach is 87-73.
