Katie Emerson is the daughter of Errich and Michelle Emerson. She was coached by Mikey Atwood, Bobby Floyd, and Shane Evans.
Katie began her career in a sport that was designed for male athletes, and did not allow for females to compete outside of the male division. She was one of a few Delphi girls to blaze the trail for the others who came behind her. For much of her developing years in wrestling she would travel to boys tournaments and compete on the boys varsity team. As the girls division gained traction, in high school she was able to compete for coaches association (ISGWA) state championships through the school team.
Ultimately the IHSAA approved the sanctioning of a Girls' State Championship for the 2024-25, her senior season. Her efforts from being the lone female, had grown the squad to 12 girls and saw the team win invitationals, and place second as a team in the inaugural Lafayette Jeff Sectional.
Katie would ultimately earn Sectional Runner-up honors joining 6 other teammates at the Regional. She then advanced from the Regional to qualify for the first ever State Finals, becoming Delphi's 1st female to qualify for a wrestling State Finals (and the 22nd individual to represent the Oracles at the highest level of competition). However it was fitting that, she would not reach the pinnacle alone, one of her first friends she recruited to the wrestling room, Taylor Martin, would also qualify, putting two Oracles into the Finals. A testament to her trailblazing efforts to grow the sport she loves.
