His research was directed towards the development of molecular methods in microbiological diagnostics. More recently, his activity has focused on the characterization of the gastric and intestinal microbiota and related diseases and on fecal transplantation in patients suffering from C. difficile infection, inflammatory bowel diseases and systemic diseases. Prof. Masucci is a member of the team of researchers involved in two European research projects: "ClosER" a Pan-European Longitudinal Surveillance Study to Monitor antibiotic resistance and Prevalent Clostridium difficile Ribotypes "EuCLID" - European, multi-center, prospective bi-annual point prevalence study of CLostridium difficile Infection in hospitalized patients with diarrhoea. He is a member of the European FMT Gourp. Author and co-author of 60 peer reviewed articles (Scopus H index: 23; citations 2101)

Prof. Maurizio Sanguinetti is Full Professor of Microbiology and Director of the Institute of Microbiology and Division of Clinical Microbiology, Catholic University of Sacred Heart. Graduated in medicine and surgery, he has a specialization in microbiology and virology. Since 2011 he is Full Professor of Microbiology at the University of the Sacred Heart of Rome.
