Why Use Mastery Manager?

Mastery manager is on online assessment tool with course rosters populated from PowerSchool. Teachers can create fully online assessments by uploading PDFs of previous assessments or creating assessments from scratch. Created assessments can include digital resources, videos, and audio clips to take your assessments to the next level. Work groups also allow for easy sharing of the work within an instructional team.

Mastery manager FAQ

How can I tell if my students can take the assessment in lockdown browser and can figure out how everything works?

Try an "Access Assessment". Create a practice assessment that has several different types of questions then give the students time to follow the instructions to access and take the assessment. Have them report back if they have any issues, questions, or suggestions. This no-stakes practice attempt is a great way to reduce stress and avoid technical issues on higher-stakes assessments.

Can my co-teacher be added to my courses in Mastery Manager?

Unfortunately, it is not really possible to add co-teachers in Mastery Manager. You may be able to add co-teachers to work groups in item bank 2 to help build questions but not to create and assign assessments to classes. We will let you know if this changes in the future.

Can I upload an existing test and allow students to take it online?

Yes, you can upload a PDF assessment to a Mastery Manager assessment and assign students to take the assessment online. An instructional video on how to do this will be posted soon.

Can I share questions and assessments with my instructional team?

Yes! To collaborate on the creation of questions with a team, create a workgroup in Item Bank 2 of Mastery Manager. To share assessments in Mastery Manager, just assign all of the sections taking the assessment or "share" the assessment to other teachers.

When assigning courses to an assessment, how do I know which sections to select?

Try to select only the sections from the semester you are giving the assessment. This will ensure that rosters are correct and student data will be accessible to the correct teacher.

Earth Science - 6161 - 1 - 400 - Piggott, Shanna

Earth Science - 6161 - 1001 - 400 - Piggott, Shanna

(Course Name) (Course Number) (Semester & section #) (School) (Teacher)

Semester & Section #: "1" is first semester, "1001" is second semester; both are section 1 which may not necessarily be first period.

School: 400 = Central; 83 = North

Can you change the weighting of an online performance event after the students have taken the assessment?

Unfortunately no. Once the students have taken an assessment the weighting for performance events cannot be changed. You can duplicate the assessment and change the weighting for use in the future.

What can students "see" while reviewing an online assessment?

There is some ability for teachers to customize what students can see while reviewing the results of their online assessment. Typically, students can see the full questions, their answers, their results, and any feedback that you leave for them in the question. Visit the Mastery Manager Help section on "Activating an Online Review" for more information.

If I set up assessment windows for my students, what is the best way to give students that missed the assessment access to take it?

Answer from Mastery Manager Support...

"My recommendation would be to adjust the "must be started between" timeframe when you're ready for the students that need to make up the test outside of the testing window to do so. This could be to set a new date/time range or to simply uncheck this option and open it up to any time. Those students who have already taken the assessment won't be able to re-access the exam, but the students who have yet to start will be able to enter. While you can use the "students not assigned to this assessment" code, students have to be very careful when entering in their student IDs since this does not cross reference any roster to make sure the ID is entered correctly. This code is basically the same as printing a blank form so we generally only recommend that with brand new students that are not found in Mastery Manager yet."
