Reading Strategies Resource
Thank you for everyone that joined our speed session on Reading Strategies during the late start on 10/18. We have created a PDF flipbook (using anyflip.com) of all the strategy pages and examples for anyone interested. (PDF with live links) If you or someone you know is interested in a paper copy of the resources please stop by the LRC or email a member of the literacy team.
Why is Literacy Important?
Here are a few literacy facts to consider...
- If a child is not reading proficiently by the 4th grade, he/she has a 78% chance of not catching up.
- 90% of welfare recipients are either high school dropouts or illiterate.
- 82% of students eligible for free or reduced lunches cannot read with proficiency.

Grammar Expectations Infographics
As was mentioned during the building late start meeting, the literacy leadership team has created more detailed infographics for each of the five non-negotiable grammar expectations that were identified by the full literacy team earlier this year. Copies of the infographics will be cycled through the bathrooms and other common areas for students to view throughout second semester. If you would like a color copy of the infographics for your classroom, please contact anyone on the literacy leadership team and a set will be provided. Thank you for your help in supporting common expectations throughout the school for our students.
