Why 4 C's? Over the past few decades there has been a rising movement in education with the purpose of preparing students to be successful college students, employees, and citizens in the 21st century society. The Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21), co-established by the NEA, surveyed scores of stakeholders and identified 18 different skills that they incorporated into the "Framework for 21st Century Learning". This framework was eventually pared down to what today are known as the 4 C's. Check out this resource for a more detailed introduction to the 4 C's from the NEA.

Picking up on this work, EdLeader21 became the first Professional Learning Network focused on helping administrators and other school leaders with incorporating the 4 C's into their K-12 classrooms; the District 127 leadership team members actively participate in this PLN. As part of their work, EdLeader21 developed leveled rubrics for each of the 4 C's so that districts and teachers could pull ideas on how to measure and assess student progress as it related to these skills. District 127 purchased a license so that faculty and staff would have access to these rubrics as they developed lessons & problems solving experiences for their students. In this series of newsletters, we will take a look at each of these rubrics and how you might be able to incorporate them into your lesson and assessment planning.
