Astra is a Latin word for star derived from Greek astronomy. Astra was the name given to her on a small name tag. There are no traces of where she’s from or who she belongs to. She randomly appeared on a cold winter night with a full moon and shining stars. As a baby, she had black hair with a beautiful pink petunia-like color for her eyes. She was found at the front door of a small cabin that wasn’t far from another town. A tall lady with long silky brown hair opened the door after hearing a noise coming from outside her door. She was surprised to see a baby in a basket outside her door, especially in the winter. There was a note beside Astra saying, “hope.” The lady was confused and didn’t give it much thought. To her surprise, this baby will eventually bring disaster into her life.
Years later, an organization in town sought a prophecy that was told years ago. The prophecy was that a shooting star would land on Earth on a full moon, transforming into a newborn. It was said that the shooting star would land in a small town near the Blossoming Shore filled with many flowers that flourish near the ocean. They were taking children by force in suspicion of any child. The lady couldn’t protect her when they took Astra away and was saddened. The town was filled with despair and reported the incident to detectives. The organization group had brought the children into a huge building that had labs inside that would lead to the children being experimented on.
Astra was nine years old when she was taken away and had been experimented on terribly. They escorted the rest of the children back to their homes after discovering Astra differed from the rest. They believed that they found the prophecy until three months later, they brought a new child who was sent from her parents. Astra was trembling when they introduced the child to her because she hadn’t anyone her age. The child was named Misaki. She was ten years old when they sent her to the lab for experimentation. The organization's leader had explained to Astra that she was cursed and nothing else. The leader was troubled after they brought Misaki because he wasn’t getting any new information on Astra after experimenting with her. He was getting doubts about Astra being the prophet and being able to fulfill his goal. However, he realized that Misaki proved his theory about past gods having their power left behind in their world. The only thing left by the gods was their elemental power, given in the form of an artifact that possessed power.
Eight elements of nature are given to people who earn it to serve and protect, but the reasons why they earn it can be bittersweet and depressing. The people who have these are usually honored. Astra has not exposed her true power, and the leader couldn’t figure it out. Astra wasn’t allowed to see Misaki unless they were together for experimentation, but other than that, they were always supervised. One night, Misaki went inside Astra’s room and startled her. Misaki wanted to explain her curse so that she wouldn’t fear anymore. Misaki told her she was from Higanbanaville, a place that is known for the red spider lily and its many specialty flowers. She explained that a lot of people from her town feared the red spider lily because of its association with death. It first started years ago with a couple who visited the area and died the following day. Misaki was someone who often collected herbs and flowers for her sick grandmother. One day she decided to explore the field with the red spider lilies after she researched what medicine they could offer. She realized it had a special ingredient that could help her sick grandmother. She stumbled upon one that was bigger than the rest. She made contact with it and a hologram appeared. It looked like a goddess, a beautiful one. This goddess had passed on some type of power to Misaki that she considered a curse. Misaki had energy flowing in her body and eventually she went running home to her grandmother. She cried in her arms and looked into her eyes and suddenly her grandmother died in front of her. Misaki’s parents heard and when they saw Misaki’s eye they panicked and worried. Her eyes were red and rumors started spreading about the incident. Misaki had discovered that she was also able to see the future deaths of people by grabbing their wrists, but it always ended in disaster as she was death. The town had made comments about her, but her parents always defended her. However, this incident had become known to the organization and kidnapped Misaki. Astra was baffled because the leader had told her that Misaki’s parents sent her to the labs. They both discovered a lot during that night and decided it was best to escape the place once and for all.
Astra explained that she doesn’t know what her powers are or how to activate them. She doesn’t know why she was taken in the first place. Misaki overheard the groups talking about a prophecy and figured that was the reason. They started planning on what actions to take because it was going to be troublesome to find a way out with security everywhere. Misaki concluded that she’d use her curse to escape and protect Astra. The following night, Misaki was able to take down the guards with her curse and run away with Astra. They ran out of the tall building and started laughing because it had been months since they’d seen the outside world. Until the leader had come with strong backup and chased after them. The leader cornered them by freezing them and called himself Cronos. Misaki and Astra trembled in fear because they’d never heard of his name and seen his power. Astra suddenly felt energy flowing through her body as Cronos ran towards them. She was able to unfreeze herself and Misaki. They started running again but realized it would be better to separate so that it’s easier to lose them. They started chasing after Astra because she was the shooting star who came that night. Suddenly, Astra had a vision of a goddess with elemental power that gave her hydro abilities that she earned. Astra’s hair had turned purple with soft pink ends. She used her new abilities to her advantage and blocked their path. After a few hours, she was finally free, but she was never able to find Misaki. They both lost each other and didn’t realize it was their last goodbye.
Astra was greeted by the moon and the stars that were shining bright. She started crying because everything was overwhelming her even though she was free. She heard someone’s voice, it was a boy with dark hair. He was her age and looked lost. The boy said she looked beautiful. A new person was introduced into her life.
I was inspired by a lot of fantasy to write this story. I’ve had this story since middle school and it always changes, but this is the first time I made a draft concluding my thoughts and how I want it to be. This is supposed to be a comic instead of a writing because it makes more sense drawn in my head. I use a lot of Greek mythology and symbolism in names because it’s something I find interesting to incorporate into my stories. I do this by starting my story with the definition of astra and how it connects to the story especially since I relate my character to the moon and stars. I like to give context to my stories so that they can follow the flow of the tone and mood of my stories. I also left my story on a cliffhanger because I’m hoping to continue the next part.
