I see your fear
I feel your sorrow
There is pain in your head
That makes you hallucinate
Life has gotten hard
You scream “Let me out”
The tears are drowning you
But there is no escape
There is pain in your eyes
Because life is full of lies
You try to escape
But life is taking you away
Death is your only escape
But I say, stay and don't run away
I do not want to fear the unknown
But what else is there to know
Nothing is easy, I know
In life, you will be alone
I feel your sorrow
And I see your fear….
What inspired me to write this poem is the statue “Memorial Park Plano (Dallas) by David Newton”. My writing process was smooth. The words kept on flowing through as I kept on writing. I used rhyme and repetition throughout my poem. I structured my poem by introducing the fear and sadness that the statue portrays and then going into more depth about those feelings literary influence was Anne Sexton’s poem “Wanting to Die” because the sadness and fear is so well stated and able to feel the words, that I got the inspiration for my poem. As I wrote this poem, I felt free to express my feelings about the painting through words and allow others to feel the same.
