Imagine a rabbit field
Oh what land!
Fields of woe
All for their hands
Imagine a large truck
Oh what scare!
Its nearly too much
For rabbit hearts to bear
They wake up and see a light
Oh what fright!
No longer in a cave
But part of the enclave
On their eyes
On their fur!
Oh how daunting
This never ending haunting
Oh how frightening!
Oh what scare!
All of the dangerous liquids
Too much for their eyes to bare!
They see the alternatives
They see all the grime!
However their lives
Are clearly worth the dime
What is very sad
The kids will never know
They might never experience
Once again, the fields of woe
My work actually came to me suddenly. As I worked to touch up my previous poem which lacked many, I thought of the start to another one, as if I was mining for copper and a diamond caught my eye. I began to mine it out, and ended up with the poem I have now. My center of gravity statement is that “Animals deserve their own chance at life”/ Although very simple, it collects all of my sentiment and beliefs in my topic of animal cruelty.
My inspiration from this poem was my book, The Picture of Dorian Gray. In the book, the author uses very descriptive words and narratives such that the reader can imagine every scene and every person. I wanted to achieve a level of description that would bring about a movie into the minds of my readers, a short film of sorts, that could capture the traumatic events that a rabbit might go through in this situation. Although there are several types of animals that are tested on, I felt a rabbit would be one that represents innocence and purity, at least I thought so in my head because, who could hate a rabbit.
