Education is the foundation of our society, yet there are many serious issues involving technology and distractions in class to our kids.
The present problem is that children who use electronic devices in school do worse. For instance in "Can Students Have Too Much Tech?” Susan Pinker informs readers that ”students who gain access to a home computer between 5th and 8th grades tend to witness a persistent decline in reading and math.’’ This demonstrates how children's usage of technology has not improved their academic performance but rather lowered their level of intellectual learning. Students' academic scores have declined and stayed depressed for as long as the researchers monitored them, claims Pinker.
Since education is the path to moral improvement and becoming a contributing member of society, it has come to be seen as the aim of progress. For instance in, ” What is the purpose of education?” ASCD Committee informs readers that “the main purpose of the American school is to provide for the fullest possible development of each learner for living morally, creatively, and productively in a democratic society,” demonstrating the need for education since these individuals will be the future's leaders and decision-makers. The use of technology has decreased the intellectual learning of kids and rather it has made it worse for their grades.
Since society also consists of friends, family, and professors, it is crucial to understand that society has its own viewpoint. From their perspective, kids need to be at a standard level in order to lead society in the future. For example, in “What is the Purpose of Education?” John Dewey states, ”Any education is, in its forms and methods, an outgrowth of the needs of the society in which it exists.’’Since education determines our future as well as the futures of our children and the older generation, it is the foundation of all thoughts and beliefs. We must thus do our best and live up to society's expectations.
Education is the heart of our society, and as such, we cannot have something as major as electronic devices ruining children who must meet a standard and, if helped, will never reach it, resulting in a horrible new generation.
I was very inspired by the belief that humans are led by our future generation and seeing that the children were being affected by the technology gave me ideas of how to write author’s commentary. I was trying to explore the theme of technology and the theme of the human future while creating this piece. I structured the paragraph’s by starting by creating a paragraph that gives the issue to the reader and then I spoke about the reasons why technology affects the kids, trying to emphasize that children need help with the issue of technology and that if we fix that then we will be able to fix our future.
