Can we eradicate poverty with our easy access to technology? Are we the people going to help those in poverty with our resources? Are we going to use the technology and resources we have on helping the less fortunate or are we going to watch them with it? Is it possible to get rid of poverty using technology? Can we as a society use our resources to help get rid of poverty? Technology heavily influences our approach to eradicating poverty due to the fact that we are given many sources of information and have social media to impact our decision on what to do but do not have a big enough impact for us to have the action to make an effort to help those living in poverty. We can also use our access to technology to create access to find jobs that can better those in poverty.
Technology can help eradicate poverty by using social media to help influence others to help those in need. A problem with social media is that many will see that others need help but will not take any action on helping them. A solution to this is that we should start showing a statistic of how many people go into poverty and how it can happen to us or our family. This can bring more of an awareness of poverty and show that it can harm anyone of us. This also brings up the question if social media can be used to eradicate poverty and according to “How Social Media Can Help Poverty Reduction” Cleo Kreji explains to us how social media can help you use your voice to speak up about difficult issues like poverty and come together collectively to find solutions, we just need to take action on the matter at hand. Another particular issue on social media being a tool for eradicating poverty with technology is that it also divides the people by generating stereotypes and creating a discrimination for those living in poverty. However we can fix this by making technology more affordable and accessible and providing free internet to make social media a more inclusive place for all.
Equally as important is the fact that we have many sources of information to educate ourselves to better understand those living in poverty and find ways to help them including making this information more accessible. On the other hand this information may be misleading and not very accurate, so we should create programs that can help distinguish those misleading sources of information and help teach those who aren't as educated. For those reasons we can help make sources of information easier and affordable to have access to so that we can help get those in poverty out of it by educating them so that they can become self-sufficient. However this raises the question of whether people are willing to sacrifice their own time and money to help those in need. This means that we should all make a fundraiser to help fund the process or have the government help fund so that we can have this process done quicker. For instance the article “Equal access to tech and reduce poverty and increase diversity” it says that there are many kids in poverty who are growing up with no access to good education or technology. This affirms the difficulty that many young children have to grow up in poverty and the fact that it is becoming a more of a problem in society. Also it is becoming more common for those in poorer neighborhoods and the government isn't doing anything to fix it so we have to come together and help build the community together.
In addition to these problems we may use technology to generate programs to help the uneducated and teach them so that they can use technology as well and find jobs and make the technology more accessible for them. However, making technology more accessible is very difficult because of the prices on them so we need donations and have basically teachers come show those living in poverty how to become functioning members of society. We may overcome this challenge by making schools that will teach them, and for the teachers and new technology we can have the government use the funds it is supposed to have for the poor to go into building the schools so that they can continue to educate themselves and become useful members of society. According to “Building School communities for students living in deep poverty” there are more than 5 million students living in poverty who aren't getting an education and have inequitable housing, no medicare and suffer from starvation. This shows us that the government is having around 7 percent of the United States living in poverty and many of these children are going uneducated. We need more funding and we need to build a culture where we strive for those living in poverty to learn and help develop the children so that we can build a society that is functional for all and beneficial to other members of society.
Technology is a very useful tool that more than half the world has access to, so we can use technology to help eradicate poverty. However we have many problems like the fact that technology is not very accessible to those living in poverty, and to those who are growing up in poorer countries or neighborhoods. We do however have many solutions to this like building schools, making programs to teach the uneducated people living in poverty and using social media as an influence to others so that they can help out. Poverty is a difficult problem that is still arising and growing to this day but we as a community can help fix the problem even though it is not going to be easy we will solve the crisis of poverty.
I was inspired to write this story due to where I live. I live in an area where poverty is very common and seen all around every corner and street. I have always felt estranged and felt deep sorrow for those who were in unfortunate situations and felt very helpless that I couldn't have done anything but spare some change knowing that wasn't going to do much to help them. However whenever I had more access to social media and technology I always saw videos about homeless people. This made me develop my ideas for the essay and overall it showed me that it was the solution that can help solve this problem. The process of getting here was a long time of figuring out that the solution was right in front of my face. I had realized that almost everybody in America has a cell phone and has social media. This made me realize that we can all use this platform to spread awareness of what was happening and band together to fix it if we all put on the effort together. I had thought of many themes in this writing. One of my themes was awareness of a situation and how we need to fix it. Another theme was of technology as a tool that we all had and can use to help. The main theme of the story was structure because it was all about us having to do this work together and for it to work we need discipline and structure for it to work.
