He vivido diecisiete años
He pasiado por la tierra
He llegado aqui, a mi hogar
Y ahora estudio en la escuela
Cada dia despierto temprano
No sabiendo que me llegara
Ni que me podra caer en la mano
Pero por ahora disfruto mi vida
I have lived seventeen years
I have walked the earth
I have arrived here, at my home
And now I go to school
Every day I wake early
Not knowing what will come my way
Nor what will fall into my hand
But for now, I’ll enjoy my life
I was inspired to write this poem because I was able to reflect back on my life so far after an assignment in Spanish class. The writing process was difficult because I don't reflect and reminisce often about my life. It is hard to choose what parts of my life to write about, things that are still relevant in my current life. I used a rhyming scheme in my poem’s Spanish version to give it a pleasing sound. I structured my poem by beginning with what my life has been like in the years that I have lived. I then go on to express the uncertainty that I have in life but my ultimate decision to continue on in life without worries. This is because I am exploring the theme of life’s uncertainties and the knowledge that we will never have all knowledge. This is something I think about often, and have chosen to write about.
