“Just ask AI,” a classmate says. “Ask ChatGPT to write it,” another says. “Let’s use AI to do our articles and answer our questions,” someone else says. AI, known as artificial intelligence has taken over more than just social media, it has taken effect on education and real world events that have a major impact on society.
The history of this massive discovery has been going on for quite some time now. AI was founded at Dartmouth Conference as a field of study in 1956, although has had some breakthroughs in the past before. Moving forward, to the more earlier years, like late 2010’s and early 2020’s, AI has been slowly getting to increase in popularity for example, the well known Siri, and Alexa have been put on devices over the years. Then in 2022 the popular app called “ChatGPT” was created, and in 2023 later went mainstream and used as a main source and tool, creating all kinds of other applications that were used for stuff like, art, content creation, analytics, and so many more powerful things.
AI has grown over the years and made the world, some people would say, better, but is it really helping society, or is it just making people, especially the youth less independent, lazier and maybe even making teenagers lose intelligence? When does it ever stop? Will art and journalism be dead? Will people become so addicted to AI that humans will lose all amount of creativity? Or better yet, why are people so addicted to AI, that every single little problem they encounter, they have to use artificial intelligence?
School is hard, having to have a drive to be creative is hard, having to answer the latest algebra equation is hard, every situation a human has to be put in life is hard, so the solution that the latest generation has come up with is to put it in an application and, Boom! There’s the answer to everything they need. Is it laziness? Is it stupidity? Are humans really evolving? People have been so dependent on technology, that when they hit a rock on the road, for example, a test in a hard subject, they have no clue what to do. Writing an article for English or a journalism class, guess what students do? Search ChatGPT on their computers and barely have any creativity. Why is creativity so dead, and why are teachers, adults, people in general letting that die?
The Mona Lisa, The Starring Night, Girl With a Pearl Earring are all wonderful, amazing paintings that have been created by artists with talent, creativity, and the humane purpose to produce beautiful masterpieces. But nowadays, the youth just put in what they want to be made in an AI engine, wait a couple minutes, post it on a media platform, and get millions of views just by being lazy. Ironic, right? Instead of putting the human brain with lots of creativity and amazing ideas to become into majestic things that people can create, the addiction and sloth of AI has taken over the brains of majority of the youth, and making themselves look like as if the human race is no longer on top of the food chain, artificial intelligence apparently is the higher power now.
Why are there no limits to this? Why is no one trying to stop this before the human brains of the youth just become into idiotic laziness because they can't even think of an idea without having the help of an AI application. Humans used to evolve with newer, beautiful art and perfect journalism that once you read a poem, a moving article, a simple book, that the person will have a different perspective in life, maybe even make their life better and romanticized. But no, instead society has articles made by AI, art made by AI, homework solved by AI, everything in the world now is made not by the human brain, but by the addition and drive of technology.
Why has humanity become so lazy and dependent that even the generations before youth are starting to have the addiction to AI. These are one of the reasons why children in schools are getting more stupid, more lazy, and their brains are so dull, that they can’t even look at an English paper without having the urge to plug it into AI and let it do its work. The education system gets bothered by test grades and children not being able to make a basic article, but it is right in front of society. The real problem isn't the children, the real problem is the impact of AI and what it is doing to the future generation. Not only is it unhealthy but it is basic common sense on why students are so lazy.
Students make excuse after excuse “I can’t think of anything” a student whines “I’m too lazy” a student complains. When does it end? Why aren't parents doing something about this massive problem? This generation is getting worse and worse, that we even have newspaper articles made by ChatGPT. News is supposed to be information that people are supposed to get from the media, not by a computer that controls the whole world.
The truth is that human creativity has already been lost, it’s dead, gone and possibly can never be brought back into peoples’ heads because of their addiction to using AI for everything. Art, journalism and other things that shape the world to become a creative meaningful place could be lost. So, will it ever end or is this generation going to be set up for failure?
