Customer Notification

In accordance with Section 192.16 of the Texas Railroad Commission regulations, the City of Big Lake, in the capacity of a Natural Gas Supplier, is required to inform the customer of their responsibilities regarding the gas delivery system on their side of the meter. Accordingly, the following information is provided:

  1. All gas lines (pipes) on the customer side of the meter is the responsibility of the customer to maintain. Maintain means monitoring for corrosion, surveying for leaks, and notification to the City when a gas leak is found or suspected.

  2. The City does not maintain the customer’s buried piping.

  3. If the customer’s buried piping is not maintained, it may be subject to potential hazards of corrosion and leakage. Consequently, the customer is cautioned to periodically check the system for leaks, corrosion, or any other unsafe condition.

  4. All excavations should first be cleared for buried gas lines. The customer should call One Call Systems of Texas at 1-800-545-6005 to get a Line Locate requested. All mechanical digging around gas lines should be preceded by hand digging to expose the lines. Licensed plumbers and certified gas contractors should be utilized to locate and mark the locations of all gas lines.

  5. Repair and replacement of gas lines should be left to qualified contractors.

  6. In any situation where the City gas technician determines that an unsafe condition exists, the technician is directed to turn off the gas source until such time as assurances are given that the system has been fully restored and is safe to use.
