Welcome to the  City of Big Lake, birthplace of the Permian Basin.
Where "Living's Great in Big Lake!"

Big Lake, Texas was incorporated in 1923 after the infamous eruption of the Santa Rita #1 in nearby Texon.  The Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railroads laid tracks through Big Lake and the town soon began to populate.  Big Lake has a rich history in oil and gas production, ranching, farming and wind energy.  Some of the benefits of living in Big Lake are the local care providers at the Reagan Hospital, Clinic and Care Center; our exceptional educational staff at the Reagan County Independent School District; our local government leaders and workers; and the local businesses and citizens who truly make Big Lake a great place to live.

The City of  Big Lake has transitioned over to a new billing software.  As a result of the conversion to the new system from the old, we are still working to ratify accounts.  Instances of missing rates and late mailings and/or receiving of the bills has occurred.  Please be mindful that customers are responsible for the full amount due for the services that they have consumed according to the readings that are taken.  If you have not received your bill, you are welcome to call City Hall and we will provide the amount due.  As per Ordinance #210504-01, Section 8.1 : Failure to receive a bill from the City does not relieve a customer of their responsibilities to pay for service by the due dates of the 15th of each month without receiving penalty (after the 15th, a late fee of $5.00 will be imposed;  after the 20th, a non-payment fee of $50.00 will be imposed).

Any message regarding the safety of our residents and community will be disseminated using CodeRED. We will send out alerts via phone, text, email, and social media in a variety of situations including boil water notices, gas leaks, evacuation notices, severe weather notifications, missing persons, and more. This is a community alert system to ensure you remain informed of important information. Please keep in mind that as you register to receive CodeRED alerts, you have the ability to select the types of messages you wish to receive and your preferred means of communication.
