My process (design class) is unique to me in regarding what I am curious about and want to set my focus on. I make my art because I get a better understanding of how I, myself, see the world. I enjoy seeing other people’s original creations and I become inspired, but I have a difficult time contributing my own ideas to the world.
The non-objective paintings were a lot more difficult than the objective direct observation charcoal drawings. I had never done anything like that before, so it was a new experience for me. The direct observation drawings made to create this painting were very objective, which wasn’t very helpful for making a non-objective piece, but I found a way to tweak things around to make it more abstract. What I think makes my painting a little different is that there are objects that you can still identify.

This quarter, my drawings consisted of experimenting with perspective, shadows, and attention to small details. I started experimenting with ink and am continuing with this.
I found that I really enjoyed working with ink. This will be something that I will continue working with. I find that I make progress by letting my curiosity lead the way. When working on the corner drawing, I began to notice the things that are often looked over because I become so absorbed and aware about my space.
I know that I am making progress when I get into a deep state of focus and I don’t want to stop working until I feel that my piece is complete.
