Do you have a valid ID or need a copy of your birth certificate or social security card? These items may be needed for employment and job opportunities. Every job requires completing mandatory paperwork and attaching certain forms of identification to that paperwork. One form that must be completed is the I-9 form. In order to complete this form, you must provide some information about your identity and employment eligibility, such as a U.S. passport or permanent resident card, or a Social Security card (not a copy) and a valid driver's license. This page will provide you with a list of agencies and/or organizations that can help you obtain the necessary I-9 documents in Alameda County.
The Alameda County Clerk-Recorder's office maintains birth certificates from 1905 to present.
If you were born in Alameda County, you can order a copy of your birth certificate online from the Alameda County Clerk’s Office by clicking on the "Request Your Birth Certificate" button. .
COSTS: In Alameda County, obtaining a copy of your birth certificate costs $30. If you order the birth certificate online through www.vitalchek.com, there is an additional fee of $12.95. The Probation Department can cover these costs for you – just talk to your probation officer.

The Social Security Administration allows individuals to request a replacement Social Security card. Individuals may request a replacement card online as long as they are only requesting a replacement card, and no other changes.
To apply for a social security card, whether a new card or a replacement card, you will need to complete Form SS-5 (click on "Form SS-5" button).
REQUESTING A REPLACEMENT SOCIAL SECURITY CARD: You will only need to provide your birth certificate when applying in person at an Alameda County Social Security Office. If you want to apply online, you’ll still need to provide your California ID or driver’s license. You can apply for a replacement social security card online by clicking on the "Request a Replacement Social Security Card" button.
COST: There is no cost to obtain a new or replacement social security card.

You can apply for a California ID through the CAL-ID Program prior to your release if you:
Have a social security number
Have been issued a California ID or driver’s license from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) within the last 10 years
Don’t have an active felony hold, warrant, or detainer that will result in additional incarceration following your release.
The CAL-ID Program also requires that you have an address where you can receive mail. If you meet the criteria above but do not have an address, you can use the Alameda County Probation Department’s Oakland office as your address: 400 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94607.
If you aren’t eligible for the CAL-ID Program, you’ll need to apply for a California ID as soon as you are released. Your probation officer can help you schedule an appointment at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
To obtain a CAL-ID , make an online appointment at the DMV by clicking on the "Get Your CAL-ID" button. If you choose to drop into a DMV office, click on the yellow tab that says "offices" to fin the DMV location nearest you.
