CALWORKS HOUSING ASSISTANCE: Provides rental assistance, payment of utilities, case management, housing outreach & placement, legal services, and credit repair services.
Eligibility: To be eligible, you must
Must be homeless OR at risk of being homeless
Must be an active recipient OR applicant of CalWORKS.
CALFRESH: Provides monthly assistance for low-income or no-income individuals and families to purchase nutritious food.
Eligibility: To be eligible, you must:
Must be a California resident
Must have an income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.
TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE: CalWorks members and individuals who lack the means to pay for transportation services can receive BART fare and bus passes.
Eligibility: To be eligible, you must:
People who now get CalWORKs may be eligible for transportation services.
If your one-way trip to work or school takes more than one hour by bus or BART, then you are eligible to be paid a set amount per each mile that you drive.
GENERAL ASSISTANCE: Provides cash aid to indigent adults and emancipated minors who are legal residents of Alameda County and who have no other means of support.
Eligibility: To be eligible, you must
Must sign a reimbursement agreement as a condition of eligibility. Employable recipients may participate in employment service activities.
Recipients who are unemployable and/or 65 years and older who appear eligible for Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI) are required to apply for these benefits through the Social Security Administration.
Legal Non-Citizens 65 years and older who meet certain residency requirements must apply for benefits through the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants.
Applicants and recipients may have up to $1,000 in personal property.
Must be a U.S. citizen or non-citizen legally in the country with no limitation on your stay.
Must be a resident of Alameda County for at least 15 days.
Must be an adult without dependent children; OR an emancipated minor.
