Egyptian Scarabs

Students learned about the ancient art of Egypt and then created their own scarab on metal.

Japanese Sakura

During the spring bloom, students learned about cherry blossom trees then created their own with blowing paint and 2 brush techniques.

Students had some freedom with this abstract design inspired by the book Ed's Egg.

First Grade

Picasso Flowers in Hand

Students learned about the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso and then created a simple painting by tracing their hands.

Metepec Suns

Students learned about the clay relief sculptures from Metepec, Mexico and then made their own version with foam under foil.

Textured Fish

Students made small pinch pots, added fish features, and texture with hard pasta noodles.

Second Grade

Trees in Sunset

Students created a blended sunrise/ sunset then used pieces of cardboard to paint a blossoming tree.

Mosaic Suns

Students learned about mosaics and radial design, then created their own version with dry pasta noodles and metallic paint.

Monet Boats

Students revisited Impressionism and learned about the artist Claude Monet. Then they created a water scene showing depth.

Third Grade

LG Haring

Students worked together to create an oversized Keith Haring inspired piece of art using a Roll-A-Haring game.

SM Haring

Students made a smaller, personal version on tinfoil.

Chukka Plate

Students learned about Peruvian Chukka plate art, then created their own version with various sizes of paper.

Fourth Grade

Native American Coil Pots

Students worked through a Native American unit and with this 3D portion, created a coil pot with a symbol engraved in the surface.

Lakota Mixed Media

Students wrapped up their Native American unit by creating a mixed media surface and then painting symbols on the surface to tell a story.

Picasso Vases

Students learned about Picasso's cubism and then created their own version after drawing vases from still life.

Fifth Grade

Banyan Trees

Students learned about the arial roots of Banyan trees and then created their own with black paint and used oil pastels to blend two colors to create a third color.

Mexican Cacti

Students learned about Mexican pottery and the beautiful and intricate designs. They then drew cactus to fill their pot.

Sixth Grade

Gradient Silhouette

Students learned about silhouettes and the history behind this way of capturing a portrait. Then they created their own scene with a gradient background of colors of their choosing.

Self-Portrait Stained Glass

Students created a simple self-portrait, then wrote over their image with their hope and dream. Then colored the person with warm colors and the background with cool colors.
