Junior Kindergarten Pine Cone Chandelier




Junior Kindergarten worked collaboratively to paint pine cones fro our unique and colorful pine cone chandelier. It is now hanging in the south solarium closest to the first and second grade hallway. What a neat way to decorate that space!

Kindergarten Kente Clothe Weaving



Kindergarten heard the book "The Spider Weaver" by Margarate Musgrove and learned about the culturally inspiring and beautiful Kente clothe weavings. They worked collaboratively to create this 6 foot by 3 foot weaving by painting and gluing paper, and finally weaving together large strips of paper.

Kindergarten Holiday Bells


Kindergarten at Rawhide and Kindergarten and second grades at Recluse created functional bells from clay and then painted them with watercolor. These turned out fabulous!

Kindergarten Corduroy Bears


Kindergarten heard the book "Corduroy Bear" by Don Freeman and learned about what it could look like to be a friend. Then they did a guided drawing combining shapes to create their own corduroy bear. They worked hard to be great colorists.

First Grade Pete the Cat


First grade heard the book "Pete the Cat: Cavecat Pete" by James Dean and learned about conflict resolution between new and old friends. They did a guided drawing combining shapes to create their own Pete. They colored with marker and watercolor blended the background.

Second Grade Van Gogh Sunflowers


Second grade observed and discussed Van Goghs sunflowers painting then drew their own with glue! After the glued dried, they blended chalk pastels to create these delicate and bold sunflowers.

3rd-5th Native American Huts


Third through fifth grade at Recluse created a paper collage landscape of Native American huts. They painted a simple background representing the land, then added huts and trees from another painting where they focused on background, middle ground and foreground. After it was all glued together, they added shadows next to trees and huts.

Third Grade Scream

Third grade observed Edvard Munch's "The Scream" and then painted their own version in watercolor paint making sure to give the main character something to scream about.

3rd-5th Pop Art Portrait Prints



Third through fifth grade at Recluse created a self-portrait on foam sheets then printed their drawing with water-based ink and brayers to created these Warhol inspired prints. They turned out so great!

Third Grade Pop Art Clay Cupcakes


You're getting a sneak peak at some melting clocks here too! The cupcakes were inspired by the Pop Art of the 1950's and 60's. Pop art was everyday objects turned art. Well, who doesn't love cupcakes? They made these with clay and then painted with acrylic.

Fourth Grade Dia de los Muertos Dancing People



Fourth grade created paper collage Day of the Dead people to celebrate the dead. They learned about this festive holiday and what it truly means to celebrate the lives of those no longer with us. As long as we remember and celebrate, they will always be here.

Fifth Grade Topography


Fifth grade learned about topography and why it's important to be able to read elevation changes on a map. They then created their own mountains with paper and foam sheets in between their paper. Some students even used color patterns!

Fifth Grade Melting Clocks




Fifth grade learned about Surrealism: real objects in an unreal setting. They also discovered the art of Salvador Dali. Then they created a melting clock made of clay and painted them with acrylic paint.

6th Grade Op Art Pyramids



Instead of working in sketchbooks this year, sixth grade had a semester-long assignment of creating a pyramid with four op art designs on the sides. These turned out super cool!

Sixth Grade Dia de los Muertos Masks


Sixth grade created plaster masks using plastic face molds and then decorated their masks using marker and paint.
