Junior Kindergarten Lady Bugs

JK had a blast creating these adorable lady bugs after listening to The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle. They are made of clay and painted with tempera paint.

Kindergarten Insects, Giant Weaving and Owls

Kindergarten has been busy experimenting with new mediums in the Art room. We looked at all kinds of insects to inspire our watercolor insects. Then we worked as a class to make one giant weaving inspired by The Spider Weaver. Lastly, we made the cutest owls out of Model Magic clay and painted them with tempera paint after we heard the book The Little Snowy Owl.

First Grade Frogs and Ice Cream

First grade completed their clay pinch pot frogs and learned how to attach pieces of clay together as well as how to glaze properly! The turned out fantastic. Then we looked at the art of Wayne Thiebaud and were so inspired to created giant ice cream cones finished off with puffy paint.

Second Grade

Second grade experimented with layering colors of chalk pastel to create these Degas inspired drawings. They turned out soft and wonderful!

Third Grade

Third grade learned about Pop art and the Artist Jackson Pollock to create their art with different lines and mixed colors. They explored creating a self-portrait of themselves as a LEGO and lastly looked at the beautiful Barn Quilt art of the Midwest US to create a barn quilt mosaic.

Fourth Grade

Fourth Grade looked at the Mexican folk art of Amate where they paint on crumpled bark or handmade paper images of birds and flowers. We used burlap fabric and acrylic paint for ours. Next, they worked on more abstract concepts to complete their cities with overlapping shapes and using color value.

Fifth Grade

Fifth grades explored illustration and were given a random dictionary paper, chose a word and then illustrated the word chosen. Then they learned about an amazing project created by two sisters who developed a snap on decorative wheel to attach to a wheelchair, they then designed their own.

Sixth Grade

Sixth grade looked at the paintings of Alma Woodsy Thomas and created their own version in a mosaic format. These are incredible! They also experiments with clay to create roses like the historical Capodimonte roses.

Kindergarten - Second Grade

These kiddos learned about art that doesn't really look like anything: Abstract Art! They crumpled up paper and painted the wrinkled sections to create Relief-like abstract art. Then we had some fun with a paper weaving turned watermelon!

Third - Fifth Grades

These kids experimented with watercolor pencils to create a rainforest collage. Then they worked on creating an abstract city by overlapping shapes and using color value.
