Kindergarten
Clay Bears
Kindergarten listened to the book Bear Snores On. Then, we discussed combining shapes to make a bear. We definitely made it happen!
Teepees
Kindergarten revisited pattern with this project and learned how to put together a paper sculpture.
Collaborative Chimes
Sometimes in life, we will contribute more than we take- this is that project. Each student got to make 1-2 3D shapes for our collaborative chimes.
First Grade
D is for Dino
First grade heard the book Magic Trash about the artist Tyree Guyton who turned Heidelberg Street in Detroit into a piece of living art. We then used old dictionary paper to combine shapes into a retro dinosaur.
Gyotaku
Firsts grade learned about Gyotaku, a historic Japanese form of printmaking where a fisherman would show his catch. They got to use awesome silicone fishes to make a print in their underwater scene.
Second Grade
Kandinsky Circles
Second grade learned about the artist Wassily Kandinsky and his abstract art. We then experimented with color to create unique circles.
Matisse Paper Collage
Second grade learned about Henri Matisse and his paper cuttings he resorted to later in his art career when he began to loose his vision. We learned how to draw with scissors!
Sunflower Bowls
Second grade created beautiful sunflower clay bowls as an ode to Vincent Van Gogh. They then glazed their pottery with bright yellow and shades of brown.
Third Grade
Moving Lines
Third grade explore the idea of movement in art by creating an illusion with paper and marker. They had to trust the process with this one!
Lego Self-portrait
Third grade made some awesome Lego self-portraits by turning themselves into iconic Lego figures and placing them in a scene.
Fourth Grade
Haiku Art
Fourth grade turned Japanese Haiku poetry into art by copying poems into spunky lines, then choosing an analogous color scheme to complete their work.
Delaunay Collage
Fourth grade learned about the abstract artist Sonia Delaunay then combined circles, unique shapes, lines and pattern to create their own piece.
Fifth Grade
Hanging Batik Peace Flags
This is a glimpse of what our flags look like hanging in the hallway.
Batik Peace Flags
Fifth grade learned about Tibet peace flags and the importance of this celebration. Then created their own with fabric dye and a simple design. These turned out beautiful!
Klimt Trees
Fifth grade learned about Gustav Klimt and his rejection of custom art style by using bright colors and intricate patterns.
Sixth Grade
Hopes & Dreams Vessels
Sixth grade worked so hard to make amazing vessels with lids combining all three methods of clay building- coil, slab, and pinch. They will fill them with future hopes and messages to themselves.
