2018 Quarter 2

Kindergarten

Kindergarten was busy this second quarter learning all about cave are from Lascaux, France. They even got to draw in their own "cave" under our art tables before making their own individual cave art. Then they experimented with texture and learned that texture is the way something feels or looks like it feels. Kindergarten experimented with texture stamps on their clay, painted pumpkins and also on their holiday bells (that actually ring!..you're welcome:).

First Grade

First grade was busy learning about pattern with their pattern monsters (Left). They got to play a game to create their monster shape, then filled it with patterns made from lines. Then we read one of my favorites "Giraffes Can't Dance" which inspired out mixed media piece made from a drawing of the giraffe and a painted background.

Second Grade

Second grade was busy learning about the artist Mary Cassatt, and then explored making a mono print of a landscape. We then learned about perspective when drawing our fall tree (right). They were very fun to paint!

Third Grade

Third grade was busy learning about Alexander Calder to create their spooky bat mobiles (far left). Then dived into Kandinsky and jazz music for their abstract felt creations (center). Finally, they created a paper weaving from warm and cool color mixed media paper. They turned out gorgeous!

Fourth Grade

Fourth grade was busy studying Picasso and Regional Artists this quarter. Their Picasso vases were cubist style and painted with mixed warm and cool colors. Their American Regionalism art was drawn with black glue and colored with soft pastels, seriously one of my personal favorite projects!

Fifth Grade

Fifth grade looked at the art of Kente cloth and made their own colorful weaving of similar colors, also adorned with beads. They also learned about their surrealist artist, Salvador Dali and made a silly yet interesting colored eye with oil pastels and added an eyebrow, eyelashes and a mustache.

Sixth Grade

Sixth grade learned about propaganda art from WWII and the infamous "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster that was only recently discovered. They created their own version of this classic poster. All semester long they had been working on an Optical Illusion pyramid using designs from their own research. Lastly, we worked on a color mixing and gradient painting using only primary colors and a city silhouette.

K-2nd Recluse

Kindergarten, first and second grade at Recluse learned about color mixing by creating color windows and then decorating them with patterns (above right). They also experimented with clay by creating 2 pinch pots and combining them to create a lovely bird bad. Lastly, we discussed it "takes a village" to raise a child, not just a parent; then we explored architecture and all the things that make an exterior of a building look interesting.

3rd-5th Recluse

Third, forth and fifth grades at Recluse were very busy this quarter by first working on positive ad negative space by creating interesting shapes and including the reverse of those shapes. Then, they learned about warm and cool colors by creating a mixed media paper weaving. Lastly, we looked at the art of Pablo Picasso and created in his "blue style", guitars that included al the accurate parts of the guitar!

6th-8th Recluse

Sixth, seventh and eighth grades at Recluse we busy learning about abstract art through wire sculptures and acrylic paint on pantyhose. Then they did a mixed media weaving with a photo from expired calendars and colorful string.
