Kindergarten
Mountain of Mittens
Students heard the book "Mountain of Mittens" and we discussed pattern. Then they colored their own mitten using various patterns.
Kente Clothe Weaving
Students heard the book "The Spider Weaver" and then worked collaboratively to create a wall-sized weaving.
Monkey Illustration
Students looked at various book illustrations and we did a guided drawing together to create a monkey illustration.
First Grade
Diversity Self-Portraits
Students heard the book "All Kinds of People" then talked to their neighbor about their physical different characteristics. We then did a guided collage self-portrait.
Second Grade
Mendhi Hands
Students heard the book "Nadia's Hands" and learned about the Mendhi hand dying ceremony in Pakistani weddings. We then created our own designs using symbols, then made a print of the design. Then chose either warm or cool colors for an abstract background.
Monet Water Lilies
Students heard the book "Where's the Frog?" and explored the work of Claude Monet. We then painted big sheets with liquid watercolor paint and went through a guided paper sculpture build.
Third Grade
Clay Cupcakes
Students looked at the art of Wayne Thiebaud and we then created clay cupcakes and glazed them with various fun colors!
The Scream
Students looked at the work of Edward Munich and then created their own version of this iconic painting by inserting their own idea of what the main character is "screaming" at.
Fourth Grade
Number Weaving
Students looked at number patterns for the number of straws we were weaving (12) and then had to weave at least three different patterns.
Hopper's Windows
Students looked at the art of Edward Hopper and then created their own interior space using perspective drawing and paint creating different values to represent light within the space.
Fifth Grade
Clay Wizards
Students followed along a step-by-step build to created these creative and interesting wizards.
Sixth Grade
Op Art Spinners
Students created this dazzling spinners with three layers of Optical Illusion art. The bottom layer is an optical art design, the middle layer is a gear, wheel or cutout of some kind, and the top layer is another optical illusion on clear film.
