Note: The description will appear exactly as entered everywhere in the system. Check the spelling and punctuation carefully.
Enter the date the assignment was given in the Assign Date. The date can be entered using the drop-down for month and day or clicking on the calendar icon.
Enter the Proposed Due Date for the assignment. The assignment will appear on a calendar when students login to their Skyward account on the Proposed Due Date.
Enter the Max Score for the assignment.
If necessary, change the Weight Multiplier for the assignment. For example, the multiplier is set to 2.00 then the assignment would be worth twice the Max Score value when the grade is calculated.
This value is generally left at 1.00.
Click to add a check mark before any class that should have this assignment added.
Click one of the Save buttons depending on what part of the program will be used next.
Save and Back will save the assignment and return to the gradebook.
Save and Add Another will save the assignment and clear the fields for a new assignment entry.
Save and Score will save the assignment and bring up the assignment score entry screen.
Optional Steps
Assignments can be grouped in the gradebook.
In order to use Assignment Group, the gradebook must be set to sort assignments by group.
From the gradebook screen, hover over Display Options and click Assignment Display.
Click on the Sort Assignments by drop-down box and select Assignment Group.
To have the assignment group appear on the gradebook screen add a check mark before Show Assignment Group of the Assignment.
Enter an assignment group for the assignment.
The Actual Due Date can be recorded after the proposed due date has passed. The assignment would be edited and the new due date would be entered.
Click on the month drop-down, day drop-down and enter the year or click on the calendar icon to set the proposed due date.
Skyward defaults to 100 points for the maximum assignment score.
This default value can be changed from the gradebook screen.
Hover over Display Options and click Assignment Display.
Enter a new assignment default in the Maximum Score Default box.
Click Save.
Assignments can be changed to not display on Family and Student access.
It is recommended that these boxes remain checked for all assignments.
Assignment scores can have various appearances in the gradebook.
For example to record a check mark instead of a grade, select Check from the drop down box.
If a score is entered for the assignment the mark is recorded as a check instead of a letter grade.
The available display options are Score (numerical), Check, Percent, Grade Mark.
Comments can be recorded as the scores are entered. The assignment comments can be displayed in the gradebook. This option can result in the gradebook becoming filled with comments which would require more scrolling to enter grades.
It is recommended that comments are not shown.
Skyward is introducing online assignments in which the teacher can create online lessons and assessments. The students would login to their Skyward account and complete the activity. Depending on the activity the scores could be automatically added to the gradebook.
This feature is not currently supported at the school level.
