Here's a video on some basic rules and etiquette students should follow while in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH6KUUwmZ7s
Attendance: Phone must be in correct phone cubby to be marked present
Passes: You may take a pass from in front of your teacher's desk in the office. You will be timed
Start of Class: When you arrive into the Lab, you should not wait on teacher instructions. You should arrive and start working as soon as you're able
Clean-Up Time: When there are 10 minutes left in class, a blow horn with sound 3 times over the music. This is the indication that you must start cleaning up your area (more details in next section)
If the area is not clean by the end of the class, you will be told to stay until done cleaning and will not be given a pass to your next class
If you think it will take longer than 10 minutes to clean, you should start cleaning earlier
Proper Shop Attire: While in the machine shop of the lab, specifically, the following items are required to be done/worn even just to step into the doors
Required: Safety Glasses/Side Shields, Close-toed Shoes, Long hair tied back/in a bun, clothing strands tucked in (i.e. hoodie strings)
Prohibited: Personal Headphones, Sandals/Exposed-toe Shoes, Loose Clothing/Jewelry/Hair
Food/Drink: No food is allowed in the Lab, unless otherwise stated (i.e. for a special event). No disposable water bottles are allowed in the Lab, and you will be asked to transfer those components into a re-usable bottle, or be drained and properly recycled.
Feedback: We value your feedback regarding anything in the Engineering Lab. If you have feedback on your class curriculum, concern about another student, a positive shout-out for someone doing something great, or any random feedback related to Engineering, please use the Anonymous Feedback Form to let us know!
During clean-up time, you must clean up all of your active workstations even if you are in the middle of your project. If you are working on a project, you must have a locker and receive a lock from one of the Instructors. All of your unique, project-specific materials must be put into your locker and your locker must be locked before you leave.
General tools are NOT ALLOWED to be stored inside of lockers (you are likely not the only one that needs that tool)
All general tools MUST be put away into the Black Toolbox, located just inside the Machine Shop area
All work surfaces MUST be cleaned before leaving the class
Any project-specific materials left out at the end of each class/day will be thrown into the "Red Bins of Shame" marked "Current Week"
At the end of every week, those items will be moved to the "Last Chance" bin for the owner of those parts to retrieve the following week
Any items still in the "Last Chance" bin by the end of the following week will be placed as a free up-for-grabs item for anyone in class to take/use, or will be thrown away into the trash.
