Importing Images into Onshape is a very useful tool.
Inserting Images into Onshape allows you to outline logos and other images to be 3D printed very easily. My friend and I were able to insert an image of the BSM logo and that allowed us to sketch and design the BSM robotics logo.
There are a few simple and easy steps to importing an image into Onshape. You can follow these steps and watch this quick tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wR3FDvAgaVA
First you have to make sure your image is on your desktop.
You have to start a sketch in order to be able to insert an image. Click sketch in the top left and select a plane.
3. Look for this on your tool bar and select insert image.
4. Once you have clicked on the insert image button you will have to make your Macbook full screen in order to see the import button at the bottom.
5. Click the import button on the bottom and select the screenshot you want. Then when you have found it select open.
6. Once you have clicked open you will get a notification on the right of your screen saying upload complete and it will show up right underneath the search for image files bar.
7. Click on the upload then you will be able to drag the image across your selected plain. Yayyyy!!! You have imported an image into Onshape. Be aware that you cannot rescale the image once it is placed, you can move it, but not shrink or enlarge it. If you are trying to create and image to scale, make a line on the image that is an inch long and do the same to a sketch layer in onshape, then line those up when importing your image. The scaling won't be perfect, but it'll be better than guessing.
How to sketch around an Image.
Sketching around an image is very easy. You can use multiple tools such as a conic or the spline tool. The spline tool is the easiest and creates the most accurate outline.
This video tutorial does an awesome job demonstrating how this tool works.
