Welcome to A level Politics. We look forward to meeting you in September
There’s no need to do any other specific preparation in advance of starting the course in September. However, it’s a great idea to keep up to date with the news and read around any aspects of politics that interest you.
Work that is expected will be completed and will form part of the first few weeks of teaching.
Please buy an A4 folder and file dividers to keep your notes in. You will also need to buy this textbook (second hand is fine): https://www.hachettelearning.com/politics/aqa-a-level-politics-government-and-politics-of-the-uk-government-and-politics-of-the-usa-and-comp-63749ed95e6f78cc92d24caf4203ff8a - AQA A-level Politics: Government and Politics of the UK, Government and Politics of the USA and Comparative Politics Second Edition
Author(s): Simon Lemieux, Rowena Hammal, Paul Fairclough, Anthony J. Bennett
Work that is expected will be completed and will form part of the first few weeks of teaching.
Download a UK newspaper app to your phone (e.g. the Guardian) AND a US news app (e.g. Politico or CNN Politics). Get into the habit of checking them every day for news stories.
Find ONE story from UK politics and ONE from US politics and annotate on each one what you can learn from it about politics in the UK and US. The story can be about anything you like - pick an aspect of politics that interests you as you will be talking about it in your first Politics lesson! Bring your annotated stories to your first lesson at Bohunt.
