Please read one of the following books and then write half a side about what you have learned. Hand in your notes at the start of your first Classical lesson:
- Classics: A Very Short Introduction, by Mary Beard and John Henderson
- The Greeks, by H.D.F. Kitto
- SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome, by Mary Beard
- Homer: A Beginner’s Guide, by Elton Barker and Joel Christensen
Here are some taster sessions and some zoom videos I recorded to go with them. Have a go at the two worksheets attached using the videos for help.
They give you an introduction into the history elements of the course (Democracy and the Athenians and Imperial Image) and start to give you an idea of the sorts of things we will be learning about next year.
