We look forward to meeting you in September.
There’s no need to do any specific reading in advance of starting the course in September. However, if you want to stretch yourself by reading about Russian History, the short novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn is a great read.
Work that is expected will be completed and will form part of the first few weeks of teaching.
Please buy an A4 folder and file dividers to keep your notes in. You will also need to buy the textbooks below (second hand is fine):
by Sally Waller, J Thomas and Michael Willis
by Sally Waller
Watch this video from the Andrew Marr ‘The Making of Modern Britain’ series, Part 1: A New Dawn.
It is an hour long, so make a cup of tea and put your feet up! No need to take detailed notes, but as you go, make a list of:
The main issues facing Britain at the start of the 20th century
Key figures mentioned on the video- what were their names and what did they do?
Once you have watched the video, make a note of:
The main arguments that Andrew Marr made about during this period
The most interesting or surprising thing that you learnt from the video.
