Welcome to Photography

We’re thrilled to welcome you to the A‑Level Photography course this September. Whether you’re already passionate about photography or just beginning to explore it, we’re excited to support you as you develop your creative eye, technical skills, and personal visual style over the next two years.

As a team, we’ll guide you through a wide range of techniques, introduce you to inspiring photographers and artists, and help you build a portfolio that reflects your own ideas and way of seeing the world. Most importantly, we’re committed to creating a supportive studio environment where you can take risks, share ideas, and grow in confidence as an independent creative learner.

Recommended transition reading

Photography books are often expensive, and because the world of photography evolves so quickly, we regularly turn to online platforms to stay up to date with new ideas, techniques, and conversations. These websites are an excellent starting point if you haven’t come across them before—and even if you have, they remain fantastic resources for discovering what’s happening in photography right now.

•LensCulture — International platform featuring contemporary photographers, competitions, essays, and trend spotting articles. Great for seeing what emerging photographers are doing globally.

•British Journal of Photography — One of the longest running photography publications; brilliant for interviews, project breakdowns, and industry insight.

•Magnum Photos — Essays, contact sheets, photographer diaries, and deep dives into documentary and photojournalism.

•1000 Words Magazine — Critically respected online magazine focusing on contemporary photographic practice and theory.

•Photoworks — UK based organisation offering articles, interviews, and educational resources, plus excellent project features.

•The Guardian Photography — Regularly updated with exhibitions, visual essays, and contemporary issues in photography.
