Hello and welcome to your Drama A-Level,
We are delighted that you are planning to take Drama A-Level at Bohunt Sixth Form. We know it is the right choice and firmly believe it will shape your time at Sixth Form; where we will support you tirelessly to become creative, challenged, socially aware, politically motivated and successful theatre markers.
Your first task will introduce you to two very different types of theatre, unlike those studied at GCSE, and we genuinely look forward to our first seminar discussion where we get to understand what inspires you.

Firstly, your summer reading list is to engage more with theatre in three ways below:
1 - Go to theatre if you can. Search what is on at your local theatre and arrange a trip with a friend. Or go to the National Theatre and see a big production in the new creative director's first season. On Fridays at approx. midday, there are £10 tickets released in the Friday Rush scheme here - https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/fridayrush/ - set your alarms!
2 - If you cannot get to the theatre in person, choose one or more separate productions (not those on your summer assignment) and watch it from the comfort of your home. Pick something you wouldn’t normally be drawn to or know nothing about. Do this on Digital Theatre Plus or on National Theatre for Schools. Login as follows:

3 - Research your local theatres - e.g. The Phoenix Theatre in Bordon, Yvonne Arnaud in Guildford, The Point in Eastleigh, The Showroom at Chichester University and find out what type of theatre they are programming locally. What interests you? Read about what they do, who works there and their audiences. Would you even consider work experience there?

Please find below some texts to get you ready for September, as we will be studying Our Country's Good and Hedda Gabler during Year 12 and it is essential you purchase your own copies to make annotations. You must purchase the version of Our Country's Good linked below as that has the correct ISBN number. The copy of Hedda Gabler does not have to be that ISBN number copy, but it is the one we use in class and recommend. We have also linked the guides, but these are not essential to purchase.
We do not want you to read these this summer. We will be starting with Our Country's Good in September and Hedda Gabler after Easter.
