Abstract
The war in Ukraine has led to new attention on this developing nation and stifled focus on issues endemic to Ukraine. With the invasion of Ukraine, Western backers have entered the country, providing arms and support to thwart the advance of capitalist competitors, specifically Russia. Additionally, the war and debt to Ukraine have led to US loan guarantees and the shedding of excess American war material to save us money on maintenance cost, further entrenching Ukraine in our capitalist structures. The American military complex, with corporate companies like Lockheed Martin, benefit from the war in Ukraine and American aid packages to Ukraine include funds to replenish US stocks. Focusing on the war in Ukraine as a geopolitical case-study, this research shows how capitalism and the nation-state coalesce into a singular-minded profit-making machine at the cost of real lives and the loss of the quality of the state.
