Abstract
The Center for Disease Control reported that an average of about 75,000 opioid related deaths happened in the past year. About 1.6 million people experience opioid use disorder and 560,000 deaths from 1999 have been due to opioid overdoses. With numbers such as this, opioid addiction can be described as an endemic as this disease continues to occur throughout many regions. Of those affected, those most at risk are re-entry citizens who are 40 times more likely to fall victim to this issue. In partnership with Mount Sinai’s Diversity Innovation Hub, my research team focuses on directly targeting opioid addiction in citizens reentering society after incarceration. Through the creation of a focus group, we are tracking user satisfaction rates on provided services such as social support through peer support specialists. This will allow us to dispute resolution, mediation, and reunification via social work service by tracking satisfaction rates in an effort to create our finalized platform.
