Here in Junior Infants we learned all about the topic of light and shadow. We all got to make our own shadow puppets and then we all got a chance to discover their shadows. We looked at how big and small the shadows get when you put them near a light. It was great fun making our own little shadow drama sketches!
At this station, we have done lots of work. We have been creating our own passport applications. We each did very well even though we are only just starting to write.
At the Playdough station, we looked at all the different items in the Post Office. This was great to help to learn the words all to do with the Post Office.
We were learning all about The Post Office for our Aistear theme for the month of February and we were very lucky because the Postman came to our classroom to tell us what he does everyday! We asked him lots of questions and he gave us lots of interesting answers. We really enjoyed listening to what his work involves and maybe someday, some of us might be postmen and post women.
We had an election for a Class Captain in Junior Infants on the 7th February, a day before our national general election. In our class election, we had two candidates - Ben the Broccoli and Carly the Carrot. We listened to their manifestos and we made election posters for them. We then all got the opportunity to cast our votes for our Class Captain. We had polling clerks to cross our names off and we went to make our secret ballot on our own ballot paper. We then put our votes into the special box for them to be counted. Miss McCarthy helped us to count the votes at the end. It was lots of fun to learn about how to vote!
Mrs. Ronayne came into our class and did lots of word blending with us. We are well able to break up words and blend them now. We are nearly finished using our caterpillar!
We were finishing S.E.S.E. work surrounding The Post Office with Ms. McCarthy. We are all well able to talk about The Post Office now and have all the vocabulary.
We learnt all about Spring in the last couple of week. We made chicks with the help of Deirdre. We were very busy cutting, pasting and painting to make very cute art!
At the Creative Station, we had great fun making igloos in the snow. We used lots of different materials like cotton wool, paint, paper plates and shiny decorations. We all got to talk about what animal we would like to live in our igloos!
At the Playdough Station, we were recreating lots of different items you would find in the Antarctic! We created icebergs, snowflakes, killer whales and penguins to name but a few!
At the Small World Station, we have tried our best to recreate igloos, we have got the chance to play with different animals from Antarctica and play with the snow!
Our Christmas Play took place on the 5th of December 2019. It was our first time up on the stage in front of the whole school and all of our parents and grandparents. It was great fun and we did our part really well. We had one poem 'Here are the Sheep' and one song 'Hush! Ssh! There's a baby!' (See lyrics below). We all wore our uniforms and a Santa hat. It really marked the start of Christmas for us, we were delighted to have taken part.
Verse
Hush! Ssh! There's a Baby.
Oh! Ah! In the manger.
Hush! Ssh! Baby Jesus.
Oh! Ah! There's a danger that we're going to wake him up.
He's such good news we can't stop up.
Chorus
We're going to sing with the angels, heavenly sound.
Shout with the shepherds, tell what we've found.
Worship with the wisemen bow right down, Jesus is born and he's such good news.
Verse
Chorus
We're going to shout and sing and worship the King!
We're going to shout and sing and worship the King!
We're going to shout and sing and worship the King!
Jesus is born and he's such good news.
x2
We're going to Hush! Ssh!
Here are the Sheep asleep on the hill,
Here are the Shepherds watching them still.
Bright shining angels came to bring the good news.
A baby is born for me and for you.
Dear God now its Christmas with presents and fun,
We thank you for the gift of your own precious Son.
Here in Junior Infants we have got an Elf on the Shelf since the start of December. He arrived with a note on our windowsill. His name is Chip. Here are show instances of what Chip does in our classroom every morning! Silly Chip!
Santa's Workshop
Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and all our little Junior Infant elves working very hard.
We were being very creative over here and we were making robins on logs in the snow with our handprints and lots of paint!
We are finally going on our Christmas holidays! We said goodbye to our elf Chip who mentioned ALL our names in his recent letter, he must have been really listening over the past month with us! We each have a Christmas decoration going home for our Christmas tree to remember Christmas 2019.
We hope you all have a wonderful and safe Christmas and that Santa comes. We will all be back in 2020 with more fun and learning!
We have started the Aistear programme in Junior Infants. Our theme this month is Houses and Homes. We had lots of stations this month to begin. a Sand Play Station, a Creative Station, a Small World Station, a Role-Play Station, a Playdough Station and a Literacy Station. We have been separated into three groups and each week we do different forms of play to learn more about our topic. Here are some pictures of us below.
We were very lucky to have had past pupil Danny Linehan come into to visit us in school. Danny Linehan is an All-Ireland Minor champion and was a key figure in this years All-Ireland final against Galway. Danny brought the cup into see us and we were thrilled to cheer him on.
UP THE REBELS!
We had a wonderful first day at school meeting our new teachers Miss Arnold and Deirdre. There are twenty seven of us in Junior Infants this year and we are looking forward to learning lots of new things and having lots of fun.
We took a special first day photo in the Halla to mark this special occasion.
