To get Read and Write on Google Chrome you need to sign into Google Chrome and make sure that your account is synchronising.
Click the user icon, top right of the Chrome Browser. You may see your initial in the circle instead.(Fig 1)
Click Turn on sync. (Fig 2)
Click the Link data button, You may be asked to Merge data with the current set, you will want to do this. (Fig 3)
Once Sync is on (Fig 4) you will be able to see the following extensions which will enable read and write (Fig 5).
You may need to click the Jigsaw piece to see the extensions.
IMPORTANT: The Chrome PDF reader app only works on pdfs in MY DRIVE and NOT a SHARED DRIVE.
You will now be able to open a pdf from 'my drive' in chrome, or on a chromebook.
This icon when using the PDF Reader opens the Screenshot reader which can read anything on screen, even if the text is part of an image.
This Icon in the extensions bar (Fig 5 above) can read from a screenshot on any website.
In Google Docs you can leave voice notes for students.
With Read & Write(R&W) open (you may need to click the extension to activate it) you can now highlight some text and click the 'Voice Note' button in the R&W toolbar
When you start the voice note you will be greated with these 3 buttons.
Click the Microphone button to record your voice clip. Click it again to stop recording.
Preview your voice clip with the play button. you can then re-record your clip if you're not happy with it, or click insert to place the voice note.
When starting the recording you may need to Allow your microphone.
You may also need to click allow on this prompt so that Read & Write can save the voice clips in your Google Drive.
Now that you have created a voice clip, anyone with commentor or editor permissions will be able to play the voice clip back.
If the person trying to play the voice clip does not have R&W installed, they will instead see a link that they will be able to follow
