Offline File Sync is the system in place in order for laptops to be taken home and still access work that would be on your network folder. When you arrive back on site all your work synchronises with your network folder, safely backed up.
Sometimes Offline File Sync encounters issues that can stop it synchronising, leaving your files un-backed-up and vulnerable to data loss.
The signs to look for are when you are on-site and in file explorer, with documents selected, the symbol appears in the bottom left, and it states "Offline" or "Conflicts".
When the System is healthy it looks like this:
Clicking on the words "Last sync on xx/xx/xxxx xx:xx" will open the sync centre where you will be able to sort through any conflicts.
You may see a Warning icon instead. This will open the Sync centre too.
A conflict gets created when the system gets confused as to which version of a file should be the one to keep. The file on the Network, or the File on the Laptop.
Open the Sync centre by clicking the warning icon at the bottom of the explorer window. You may need to select "Documents" first.
Click the blue text that states how many conflicts you have.
Then select all the errors and click resolve.
Go through each error selecting the most appropriate option.
If it fails, you may have a file open that is interfering. You may need to close applications. Select "cancel" on items that will not resove.
Open Sync centre with the warning message
Click the blue conflicts word to get to the conflicts
