In the Start menu find ‘AD account reset tool’ then click ‘Account Reset Tool’
If you are have trouble finding this tool, try searching for “account”. Open the Start and begin typing account. You should see this:
On launching the program click Yes to the popup, and you will be greeted with this:
Begin Typing the username you want to reset the password of in the Username box, it will try and auto complete.
Reset Password - only check this if the password needs to be changed, in some cases, the account just needs to be unlocked.
Must change password at next logon -if you check this box, this will require the student to change their password the next time they log in. Do not check this for students
Please see below for the three common scenarios for resetting passwords.
Here you will need to set the students password manually, and give it to them over the phone, or agree it with them in advance. If you change their password and then email it to them, they will not be able to access their emails to see the new password.
Note 'Must change password at next logon' is unchecked.
Here you can change their password to something like 'Bideford1'. They will then go to a computer and type it in, they will then be asked to reset their password.
Note 'Must change password at next logon' is checked.
This will unlock the students account if they have tried their password too many times. and locked themselves out.
Note that both 'Reset password' and 'Must change password at next logon' are unchecked.
