Dear Families,
May flowers and showers are here, and the Lower School is buzzing! From culminating projects to community celebrations, it is a high-energy time of year. Next week Madrid celebrates San Isidro, and we love that our students get to grow up connected to the traditions of this incredible city.
I hope to see many of you at the Gala tonight!
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Dani
In our Spanish Nativo classes, Grade 3 and Grade 5 students shared about someone who inspires them — from abuelas and abuelos to cherished classmates, the presentations were heartwarming, funny, and delivered with so much pride!
Recycled Sculpture Contest
If you get a chance, stop by the Grade 4 hallway to see some incredible sculptures made from recycled materials! As part of their Earth Summit, Grade 4 students organized a contest and invited other grades to participate. The entries from different grade levels are creative, detailed, and absolutely worth a look. We will announce the winners at next week's assembly!
Monthly Character Strength: Leadership
For the month of May, our character strength focus is leadership. At ASM, leadership means taking initiative, inspiring others toward a common goal, and modeling the values of our community through both words and actions.
Students who demonstrate this strength will have their names entered into a drawing at our next assembly for a chance to have lunch with Ms. Dani. We invite families to talk with their children at home about all different types of leadership and what it can look like.
MAP TESTING SPRING 2026
Soon, Grades 3-8 will be taking their Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments. The tests are adaptive to students’ answers and provide one of the many data points teachers use to meet the learning needs of our students.
Lower School: May 21, 22, 25
Middle School: May 18-20
Make-up tests will be offered until May 29
All students test in Math, Reading, and Language Usage. The student-support staff ensures that all students who require accommodations will receive them.
All students are requested to bring a book to read quietly after they finish their exams. Middle School students will use their laptops and must ensure that the laptop is fully charged.
For more information, see the NWEA Family Toolkit. Parents will receive an email with the results in early June.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or ASM’s K-12 Curriculum Coordinator at JasonDavis@ASMadrid.es.
What else is Coming Up?
REMINDERS:
SIGN UP FOR OUR SUMMER CAMP IN ENGLISH --- This year’s Summer Camp will run from July 1-31. Our camp aims to immerse children in the English language in a playful, fun, and informal way through a full-immersion camp-style approach that integrates the four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Campers will learn English through educational games and hands-on projects and will also enjoy plenty of structured time outdoors each day. Many of our students have an intermediate or advanced level of English; therefore, our camp is also a wonderful option for proficient English speakers.
