Dribbling

What to look for: Dribble

  1. Contacts ball with one hand at about belt level

  2. Pushes ball with fingertips, (not a slap)

  3. Maintains control for consecutive bounces

Activities/Games for Practice:

  • Sitting and rolling the ball around your body and back and forth in front of your body.

  • Sitting and doing popcorn catching the ball in lap.

  • Sitting, Kneeling, or standing with both hands bounce and catch the ball.

  • Bounce and catch ball to self with one hand pushing down on the ball.

  • Dribble with both hands together, pushing the ball down two consecutive times.

  • Dribble ball with one hand on top 2,3 & 4 times in a row, then catch the ball when it starts to “get away”

  • Practice dribbling as many times as possible with control. Ball should be dribbled with a push-down (not slap), try keeping it belt/waist high for control.

  • Dribble with dominant hand 5 times.

  • Dribble with non-dominant hand 5 times.

  • Dribble with alternating hands.

  • Dribbling while walking.

  • Dribbling weaving around cones.
