The children in Year 2 had a fantastic visit to a local area as part of their Science learning. The children had the opportunity to observe different microhabitats. During the trip, the children conducted a fieldwork study to investigate the impact people are having on the lakes.
We took three classes to Reculver in Term 4 as part of our Geography learning. We applied what we have learnt about coasts to discuss the coastal defences which have been put into effect in this coastal region and even had the opportunity to explore some microhabitats. During the trip, we conducted a fieldwork study and collected data about the defences and impact these have had in order to protect the environment.
We organised an optional trip to the theatre at Christmas to see Cinderella. We had such an enjoyable time watching the show with each other and experiencing a live theatrical performance.
We welcomed the company Nite Owls into school during term 1. We met different types of owls including Willow (a 10 year old barn owl) and Monty (a 5 year old eagle owl). The owls flew over everyone's heads during the talk and showed off their amazing skills. All the children then had the opportunity to have a photo with an owl!
The children had a wonderful time exploring the site. They worked together to create a life-sized den; clear a stream which had been blocked; and whittle their own swords!
As part of their topic on Kings and Queens, Year 2 had an interactive day at Dover Castle.
After exploring some of the exhibits, the children underwent a workshop on Volcanoes and Earthquakes and did so well they were awarded a diploma by Volcanologist.
Nursery took a trip on the mini bus to the soft play centre, Adventure Kidz.
Linked to our History topic of Ancient Egypt, Year 3 went to the British Museum. They saw many of the museum’s artefacts and learnt about the mummification process in a workshop.
Year 2 visited the Royal Observatory in Greenwich to explore Planet Earth. They saw a show in the planetarium before completing a workshop about the Seasons, walking the Prime Meridian Line and exploring telescopes.
This was a fantastic opportunity for Year 3 to find out more about Ancient Egypt. They were fascinated by the exhibits and particularly enjoyed seeing the sculptures.
Year 5 and 6 were visited by Francie Osei-Appiah from his charity Reform Restore Respect. He spoke about the power of education and the pitfalls of crime - helping educate the children in the dangers of county-lines.
As part of their Geography learning about the Amazon Rainforest, Year 4 visited Kew Gardens and took part in a workshop to find out all about the plants that are part of the Amazon Rainforest.
Year 4 went to watch a production of Hamlet at the Gulbenkian Theatre, followed by a walking tour of Canterbury, taking in the sights, including Canterbury Cathedral and The Beaney Museum.
To support science learning, Year 2 went to Tyland Barn for the day. They explored different microhabitats, identifying the minibeasts they found. The day concluded with pond dipping to see what creatures call a pond their home.
Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic guided tour where they discussed a selection of the paintings in the gallery. The children were really engaged and asked lots of questions.
Year 4 visited Kent Life to take part in a Roman Workshop as part of our History learning. We found out all about Boudicca and what life was like in Roman Britain.
